Der Nord Westen, 01 Mar. 1900: "News was received Mon. from Milwaukee that Fritz Becker died there on Sun. He was an old and well-known resident of our city who had lived in Milwaukee the past several years. He reached the age of 76-yrs. 10-mos. 26-days and had come here in the ‘50s where he spent many years with a store and a bakery. During the Civil War he served as a captain in the 9th Wisconsin Volunteer Regiment and did his part until released because of illness. Following the war he helped with the organization of the Wisconsin National Guard and served as a major in the 2nd Regiment. He leaves one son and two daughters. His body was brought here and buried yesterday under the auspices of the local Hermann's Sons Lodge in the city cemetery."

He emigrated to Milwaukee in 1853, and the following year came to this city and opened a bakery, carrying on that business until 1861, when he raised a company, being himself commissioned captain, the 9th Wis. I. He remained in the service about two years, then returned to Manitowoc and opened his present business. He has been Chief of the Fire Department for two years. Married, in 1847, Miss Mena Boate of Prussia. They have three children, one son and two daughters.
