Albert fought with Company H 7th NH Volunteer during the Civil War and after the war returned to Florida and grew oranges as did many of the Hollis boys who were stationed in Florida during the Civil War. He never remarried after the drowning of his wife and in his old aged he lived on the Hills Farm in Hollis. His wife Sarah Abbot Hills was drowned in a boating accident at Lake Page in Florida. She, her husband and her niece Grace Abbott were fishing when the boat capsized when a fish was caught. Albert attempted to have Sarah and Gracie (who was eleven) hold onto the boat as they could not swim but the boat kept turning over and both drowned. Albert Hills swam to shore for help. She was probably a sister to Nathan Abbott, husband of Albert's Sister Abbie.
