Donald was born on a farm northeast of Jamestown, Kansas to Andy Peter and Mildred (Walker) Hanson. He attended Salt Marsh School, Dist 93 near his home and graduated from Jamestown High School. In 1949 he married Patricia Ann Peterson. He farmed from 1938 to 1984 when he retired from farming and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Marymount College. He worked for 10 years as a psychiatric nurse.
Donald and Pat had four children: Dr. Louis Hanson, Dr. Rebecca Hanson Richardson, Rev. Rachael Hanson and Sister Abbess Aemiliane of the Holy Monstery of the Entrance of the Theotokos, of Union Bridge, Greece.
Pat preceeded him in death Jan 8, 2008.
