Belmont – Mr. Thomas J. "Mac" McShane, Jr., of Belmont, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at his home. He was 88.

Mac was born in Boston on July 27, 1921, a son of the late Thomas J., Sr. and Rose Ann (Drew) McShane. He was raised in Watertown where he graduated in 1937 from the local high school at the age of 16. He went to work after that before joining the United States Navy during World War II and served for the duration of the war.

He worked for a time as a partner with L&M Auto Parts before becoming a member of Local 25 of the Teamsters Union. He became a driver for Hinds Laundry in Brookline and after that drove for many years for Sunshine Laundry in Allston. In 1963 he and his family moved from Watertown to Waltham where he lived for 36 years before moving to Belmont ten years ago.

Mac was a member of the Watertown Auxiliary Police force for many years and had been a former member of the VFW in Allston and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge No. 1018 in Waltham. He will be most notably missed as having been the family historian for decades.
