Lulu May McGraw, age 81, of Berrien Center died on Monday, September 10, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born September 14, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana to George Clayton & Nellie Alice (Werz) Syson. She was a long-time area resident and worked for Simplicity Pattern. On December 31, 1982 at Berrien Center Hospital Chapel to Carl George McGraw, Sr. who preceded her in death on February 19, 2007.

Lulu is survived by sons George Pfiel and John (Robin) Pfiel, both of of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, daughter Catherine Temple of Berrien Center, stepsons; Herbert (Diane) McGraw, C. George (June) McGraw II, William McGraw, all of Niles, Carl “Bud” McGraw III of Houston, Texas, son-in-law Steve Richer, 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and sister Elsie Mathis of Stevensville, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, step-daughter Hazel Richer, 5 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Lulu May McGraw will be held at 1:00p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2012 at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Rev. Fran Lane- Lawrence of First Presbyterian Church in Niles officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center.

The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 11:00a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.


Lulu was married to Clarence C. Pfeil on July 12, 1948 in Niles, Michigan. She married Carl in 1982 in Berrien Center, Michigan.
