Ralph Fryman, 77
Services for Ralph Fryman, 77, of Mt. Erie, were held at 10 a.m., Monday at Ingram Funeral Home, Albion.
Mr. Fryman died at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 1995 at Fairfield Memorial hospital. He had suffered from cancer, diabetes and heart problems.
Surviving are four sons, Michael and Richard Fryman, both of Orlando, Fla., Ronald Fryman of Bone Gap and Larry Fryman of Allendale; one daughter, Laura Faye Russell of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Bruce Fryman of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Pearl Jones of Carrollton, and Daisy Ewing of Ellery and six grandchildren.
Mr. Fryman served in the United States military from 1941 to 1961. He had operated a general store in Ellery and later a store and then a restaurant in Mt. Erie, prior to retirement about 10 years ago.
Born December 18, 1917 in Grayville, his parents were James and myrtle Lee Fryman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dora Hutchcraft.
Bro. Brad Delks officiated with burial in Bethel Cemetery southwest of Ellery.

Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)-Private-contstruction, 1937-1938 (14 mos.)-Worked at Abraham Lincoln's New Salem, Menard County, IL. Located the original footstones to the cabins and outbuildings of the village.
Occupation-Southern Railroad Company-worked from 1939-1941 (2 yrs.) on the bridge and building gang-carpentry and pick and shovel.
U.S. Army-Sergeant First Class/Master Sergeant. Served with several railway operating battalions, engineer battalions, engineer companies, etc. (1941-1961).
WORLD WAR II-American theatre-stateside-foreman, inspector, and instructor for the railway battalions and railway school (Camp Shelby, MS, Camp Claiborne, LA, etc.)-Pacific theatre-Saipan and Okinawa-46th engineer battalion (support role).
KOREAN WAR-July, 1950-May, 1951 (9 1/2 months)-Company C, 8th Engineer Combat Battalion (1st Cavalry Division)-served in five campaigns-Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation for Waegwan and Taegu (Defense of the Pusan Perimater)-Battle of Unsan, south of the Yalu River where the 8th Cavalry Regiment and Company C of the 8th Engineer Combat Battalion made one of the first encounters with Communist Chinese forces. Severe casualties were sustained by the American forces. While in Korea, he became ill (probably malaria) and had to be shipped out. Also for many years since World War II, he had suffered from bouts of Vincent's Angina (trench mouth).
Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, the remainder of his military service was stateside except for two overseas tours of duty in France (Camp Bussac, 1953-1956 and Fort Maison, 1957-1959). Honorably discharged August 31, 1961.

He was a skilled carpenter, mason, and mechanic, but never utilized those skills as a profession outside of his military service. He built the family home in Ellery, IL, farmed a little, owned a few small stores, worked for oil companies as a pumper, and rehabed several old homes and a former church building. Vocationally, he was a very gifted man and amazingly creative.
Ralph was married 3 times:
1. Erma Mae Brown (1943)-divorced-no children
2. Bremalane Hill (1946)-divorced-children-Michael James, Ronald Dean, Larry Wayne, Richard Lynn, and Laura Faye.
3. Christine Lamar (1969)-divorced-no children.
