Jemima was the daughter of Henry Falconbery/Fortenbery and Jane Leath of Anson County, North Carolina. Jemima's father Henry Falconbery and her husband David Cox, and other Falconbery family members signed the Petition from inhabitants of Anson County concerning taxes and fees for public officials.....Snor, John; Et Al. October 09, 1769, Volume 08, Pages 75-80.
David Cox/Cocke and the Falconbery/Fortenberry family members very likely had targets on their backs after the Battle of Almance. Which would explain the surname change. Jemima's brothers, Henry and James Leath were very active in the Stony Creek Baptist Church. There are multiple entries in the Stony Creek Church Minute Book, in which David Cocke and James Leath are mentioned in the same sentences..
