He was a retired metallurgical and materials engineer, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Dayton, Ohio. He passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Promise Specialty Hospital of Baton Rouge. He was 78 and a U.S. Air Force pilot. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Monday, Aug. 30, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation continues at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on Tuesday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Entombment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife, Leora Marie Robicheaux Axe; daughter, Monica Marie Axe Zambrano; two sisters, Phyllis A. Petty and Mary Ann A. Minnich; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Eugene J. Axe Sr. and Alice Kaehler Axe; daughter, Rhonda Lynn Axe, age 7; and a sister, Alice K. Ostendorf. He was a graduate of Purdue University. He was a member of American Society of Metals, a Eucharistic minister and member of his church choir. He was also a lover of music and ornithology.
