Harvey Alfred Petersen, the son of Thomas and Dagmar (Andersen) Petersen, was born on August 11, 1916 at his parent's home three miles north of Hardy, Nebraska. He passed away on February 16, 2007 at the Superior Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 5 days.

Harvey was baptized on September 17, 1916 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ruskin, Nebraska by Rev. C.J. Skougaard and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hardy, Nebraska on December 27, 1931 by Rev. R.V. Davis. Harvey attended the Miller Country School and graduated from Hardy High School.

He was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Lott on October 8, 1939 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy, Nebraska and to this union was born three children, Karen, Merideth and Roger. Harvey lived and farmed in the Hardy area all his life until he and Gwen moved into Superior, Nebraska in 1980.

He was a lifelong member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, served on the church council for many years, was Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the adult choir. His whole family had a very strong faith and had a love for music, sharing and gathering around the piano especially at Christmas time. He and Gwen would travel all over the area to go dancing. He enjoyed gardening, collecting model cars and was an avid woodworker building many things, including miniature horse drawn equipment and several replica models of the Miller School he attended as a child, the old Evangelical Church that used to be north of Hardy and his childhood homestead he grew up on.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Alvin Petersen and one sister,Elna Mesloh. A son-in-law, John H. Jensen and sister-in-law, Vivian Camacho.

He is survived by his wife Gwen of Superior, Nebraska, daughters, Karen Hawley and husband Mack of Concordia, Kansas and Merideth Jensen of Clay Center, Nebraska and one son,Roger Petersen and wife Shirley of Fairbury, Nebraska. Six grandchildren, Diana Gates, Sarah Zimmerman, Kristie Graff, Scott Petersen, Becky Eberly and Stacy Petersen. Ten great-grandchildren, one sister, Viola McGowan and husband Dean of Superior, Nebraska and a sister-in-law, Virginia Petersen of Republic, Kansas along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 19, 2007 at 10:30 AM from the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy, Nebraska with Vicar Connie Raess & Pastor Daryl Nelson officiating. Congregational hymns were "I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry", "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace", with Ernestine Hoyer as organist. Special music was "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "The Lord's Prayer" sung by Stacy Petersen.

Pallbearers were Lars Pedersen, Vernon Kaldahl, Rex Kirchhoff, Edgar Tietjen, Leslie Simonsen, Ray Biltoft and Perry Gydesen. Honorary pallbearers were Diana Gates, Dennis and Sarah Zimmerman, Travis and Kristie Graff, Scott and Alyson Petersen, Becky and L.J. Eberly and Stacy Petersen.

Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers memorials may go to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Brodstone Memorial Hospital or the Superior Good Samaritan Center.

Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska was in charge of the arrangements.
