WASHINGTON - George Wilkey Larash, 76, formerly of Washington and Peoria, died at 6:05 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2001, at Illinois Veterans' Home in Quincy, where he was a resident.
Born August 31, 1924 in San Francisco to Charles and Julia Wilkey Larash, he married Marie Gofredo on May 3, 1952, in Philadelphia. She died January 31, 1970 in Philadelphia.
Surviving are one brother, Richard (and Janet) of Chillicothe; two sisters, Mary (and Jean) Merriman of Peoria and Muriel (and John) White of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was an officer in the Navy, serving 20 years, including during World War II.
He later served as a guard with the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard Police, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington, and attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, where visitation will be one hour before. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Burial will be Friday in Gettysburg National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
