Another old settler of Jefferson county passed away when Everard F. Martin died at his residence in Fairbury, on Tuesday morning, May 11, 1915. Mr. Martin came to Jefferson county in 1868 and took a homestead in Gibson precinct where he still has considerable land. He resided there until in his declining years he moved to Fairbury, living at 914 Sixth street.
Deceased was born at East Addison, Vermont, October 31, 1838 and died at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 20 days.
He was married in 1865 at Elizabethtown, N. Y., to Eunice S. Hanchett, who died in Fairbury in 1912. She was a sister of P. H. Hanchett of this city.
Children of this couple are Mrs. O. G. Collier, Fairbury; Mrs. W. W. Tyler, Minot, N. D.; Earl and Ray Martin of Los Angeles; Mattie L. Martin, Fairbury and Minnie Martin, Lincoln.
Mr. Martin was a veteran Union soldier, enlisting in the 38th N. Y. Infantry, where he served two years.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church, at 2:30, Thursday and burial was in the Fairbury cemetery.
