Frederick was born to Asahel Carpenter and his wife, Amanda Malvina Thayer, and one of 11 siblings. His parents died when he was about 12 and he and his siblings lived with numerous people during their younger years.

He married Marian Sickler and they had five known children: Gideon Judd, Frank, Anna L., Frederick G. and Charles Cyrus.

Served with 76th PA Infantry [Union] during the Civil War.

Frederick D. Carpenter was born in Penn, Jan 4, 1825, and died at the home of his son, Fred Carpenter, in Fairbury, Nebr, April 21, 1908 at the advanced age of 83 years, 3 months and 17 days.
Mr Carpenter was united in marriage to Miss Marion St Clair, April 22, 1850, just 58 years ago last Wednesday. They resided in Pennsylvania until 1873, when they moved to Des Moines, Iowa, moving from there to Nebraska in 1894.
Mr Carpenter was a soldier in the Civil war and has always been true and loyal to his country.
Death entered the home last November and removed his companion after a married life of 57 years and 7 months.
The deceased leaves to mourn his departure, four children; Gideon of Utah, Mrs Allen, Fred and Charles of Fairbury, and seven grand-children, besides a host of friends.
The funeral service was held from the home of Mr Fred Carpenter on Wednesday, April 22, at 2 p. m., Rev W T Cline officiating. The remains were interred in the Fairbury cemetery.
