George A Bedell was born May 1st, 1847, at Bernard's Bay, New York. He died at his home in Kansas City, Mo., April 8th, 1919, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 8 days.
He spent his boyhood days in New York up to the age of 17 years. At this time he enlisted in the Union army and served the last year of the Civil war under General Grant. Shortly after the war he with his parents, moved to Bloomington, Illinois. On December 15th, 1868, he was married to Miranda Bingham. To this union were born five children, two girls and three boys. The daughters died in infancy. The sons are Roy G., of Fairbury; Byron E., of Tonganoxie, Kans.; and Frank M. of Fairbury.
In the spring of 1895 he with his family, moved from Bloomington, Ills., to Jefferson county, Nebraska, locating on a farm 7 miles northeast of Fairbury. Here he resided until the fall of 1901. At this time he moved to Norton, Kans. and in the spring of 1904 he decided to quit farming and moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he remained until his death. A little over three years ago he was stricken with paralysis with left him in a speechless and partially paralyzed condition. On December 15th, 1918 he passed his 50th wedding anniversary. He leaves besides his wife and three sons, nine grandchildren; one brother, Forest Bedell of Clark, So. Dak., and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Salter of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Ella Tarman, Oklahoma City, Miss Nettie Terry of Creston, Iowa.
The funeral was held from the Christian church in Fairbury last Friday, April 11th. Rev. J. K. Shellenberger officiated. The interment was in the Fairbury cemetery.
