Jim was born October 31, 1925, in Payette, Idaho, to Flora and Welby Turpin.
Jim and his wife, Shirley Rae Gardiner, were married April 25, 1969, and were sealed in the Provo Temple, December 12, 1990.
He was an ironworker for 26 years. He loved telling and hearing a good joke, teasing, traveling with his wife, campouts with family, and working hard.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Salem; sons: David (Dixie) Turpin and Denny Turpin, both of Payson, Kenny (Loretta) Turpin, of Spanish Fork, Bruce (Barbara) Cox, of Salem, Laura (Marvin ) Brown, of Salem, and Larry Cox of Salem; brothers: Ilo "Nuggett" Turpin, of Payson, Frank "Ike" Turpin Sr., of Provo; and sister, Barbara "Pug" Ryan, of American Fork; 40 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Turpin; two sons: Doug Cox and John Shumway; two brothers: Jack Turpin and Shirley Turpin; one sister, Frances "Sally" Christman; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the LDS Salem 3rd Ward Chapel at 695 South 300 West, in Salem. There will be a viewing held Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork; and Wednesday, at the church, one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
