He was honored by Boy Scoucts of America for one of the best troops, Troop 402. On a hiking mission set out for the boys, Steven died while enroute to camp site on side of mountain just a few miles away from the rest of the fellow scouts. He died of a massive heart attack at the age of 38. His son Robert D. Sheldon was also with him on this hiking trip.
