Mary was the daughter of Ira Bigelow and Rachel (Allen) Bigelow of Colchester, Connecticut. She married Eleazer R. Utter. They resided in Elkhart and Trempealeau, Wisconsin. She died on 30 Jun 1877. Cause of death nervous exhaustion caused by taking large quantities of morphine habitually. (Wisconsin Deaths, 1820-1907)
* Howe, Gilman Bigelow. Genealogy of the Bigelow Family in America. Worchester, MA: 1890. Page 251
* Note: The death record listed her father as Calvin Bigelow. This is incorrect. Calvin was her brother, not her father. Her spouse and brother Calvin were both deceased at the time. The death certificate was completed by Dr. Alson Atwood, who may have also been the informant.
