He was born Jan. 23, 1934 in Saylersville, Ky., to Marcus McCarty and Effie Margaret Burton. He was a member of the Good Samaritan Church. He worked in different restaurants throughout the United States for several years. He enjoyed interacting with people he met.
He is survived by five sisters, Loretha Baker, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Wanda Banks, of Bedford, Ky., Verna Walters, of Elkton, Md., and Athalene Stewart and Rita Wise, both of Madison; five brothers, Luke McCarty, of Milton, Ky., Glen McCarty, of Hanover, Jerry McCarty and Roland McCarty, both of Madison, and Junior McCarty, of Vevay; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant sister, Margaret M. McCarty; and three brothers, Thurman McCarty, Delmer McCarty and Kenneth McCarty.
The funeral was at Vail-Holt Funeral Homes Hilltop Chapel. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery.
