"Friends Stricken by News of His Sudden Death in Chicago, A Message That He Was Ill, Followed by One That He Had Passed Away"
Sketch of His Life
"Late Yesterday afternoon the residents of this city, business and professional men in particular, were startled to learn that Albert M. Gerstle, of Chicago, formerly of this city, had died suddenly at noon of heart trouble. The message did not give any particulars of his demise, and it is not known whether or not the deceased had been ill prior to his death. Upon receipt of the message, Herman Ritter, a relative of the deceased, left for Chicago to make arrangements for the transfer of the remains to this city, and he is expected here early tomorrow morning. Albert W. Gerstle was born in this city in August, 1860, and made his residence here until about eight years ago. He was a graduate of Yale college, a student of the law department and after leaving that institution, returned to this city and devoted himself to his chosen profession. He was also largely interested in several local manufacturing concerns, and in financial matters. While residing in this city, he was united in marriage with Miss Rose Guniefinger, of Warren, Ohio, and one son was the result of this union. The son is now 10 years of age and resided with his father in Chicago. Some years since his first wife died, and he was afterward married to Miss Nettie Guggenheim of New York, who has since passed away. One child, a girl, now five years of age was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gerstle. Several years ago Mr. Gerstle left this city and located in Chicago, where he remained until his death. He was engaged in the patent right business, and few attorneys in Chicago were as fully acquainted with this line of business or more successful than the deceased. He was a thorough, energetic man of business, of cheerful disposition and news of his sudden demise was received with profound sorrow by all with whom he was in any way associated. His parents are both dead, his father having passed away when he was but a small child. Mrs. Theobald, his grandmother, is the only near relative who survives him and the remains, when they arrive, will be taken to her residence on Wick avenue."
"A message was received from Chicago today stating that the remains would leave there this evening, arriving here tomorrow morning. It is probable the funeral will be held Sunday afternoon."
