Titusville Herald, March 13, 1953:
Sherman Wilson Foster, 87, a life-long resident of Troy Township, died at 3:10 p.m. yesterday at the Bashline Hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Troy Township Sept. 1, 1865, a son of George and Mary Jane Armstrong Foster. On Nov. 18, 1888, he married Mrs. Oakes, who died in 1894. In 1896 he married Edith Hanks and the couple recently observed their 57th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Foster was a farmer all his life until his retirement nine years ago because of ill health. He was greatly interested in horses and kept a fine team as a hobby.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Hattie Proper, Meadville; a son, Hazen Foster, Bradford; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, William I. Foster, Franklin, R.D., and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the William funeral home in Chapmanville, where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. J.L. Murray, pastor of the Chapmanville Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Chapmanville Cemetery.
