JOY AND BESSIE GREENFIELD FAMILY
Joy Greenfield was born Aug 15,1895 to Miles and Clara Greenfield of the Stuart area. His wife, Bessie Moon Greenfield was born May 31,1869 to Richard and Selena Moon, also of Stuart. The Miles Greenfield family had nine children; Ethel Stracke, Ray, Roy, Joy, Floyd, Laurence, Ella, Florence and Doris Untiedt. There are three living children: Doris Untiedt of Stuart, Laurence of Newport, and Floyd of Bassett.
The Moon family had nine children; Wilbur, Joe, Fred, Elizabeth, Bessie, Sarah, Rose, Ruby and Elsie. The surviving children are; Wilbur and Elizabeth of Stuart, Fred of Bassett, and Elsie Lehman of California.
Joy and Bessie attended the same school, Dist 58, They were childhood sweethearts and were married Aug 21,1914. Their first home was a one room house located on the Lafe Thurlow place. They lived their entire life in the Stuart area, except for a few years at the Eaton Ranch south of Newport, Nebr. Later they moved back to the home place, known as the Miles Greenfield home.
Joy and Bessie were the parents of two children; Darleen Heyne and Robert, both residents of the Stuart area.
Darleen and Robert as well as their children attended Dist 58 school. Darlene became a school teacher and taught for many years. She taught several of these years in the rural schools. Today, Darleen and husband, Vernon Heyne live on the Greenfield place. They have resided here since 1958. They have two children; Their son, Jerry lives in Casper, Wyo and is a Sales Engineer for Centrilift Hughes submersible Pumps. Jerry has two children, Todd and Kimberly Joy. Their daughter, Mary Lynn, is married to Ray Malkoon and is employed in the IRA office of the United Bank of Arizona. They live in Phoenix, Arizona.
Joy and Bessie's son, Robert, lives on the place known as the Lafe Thurlow farm southwest of Stuart. Robert is a dealer in hay and feed and operated the Greenfield Hay Company. Robert and Doris Greenfield have three children; Daniel and wife, Vickie, live in Stuart with their four children. Daniel works with his father in the Hay Company. Diane is a legal secretary in Omaha. Dixon is in the air force in Germany.
Joy was also a hay man and for many years with hired help and his mules, put up several quarters of hay. He also hauled bailed hay in the fall and winter to Stuart. He enjoyed his work and coaxed the mules along when they were tired with his whistling and singing.
Bessie was a great homemaker and helper to Joy in the farm work. For many years they raised and sold 4-H calves. Joy passed away Sept 4,1957 and Bessie, Oct 12,1979."
