Son of Claude and Lillian Lanham. He grew up on a farm and moved to Houston with his family as a teen once the war started. He started sellign auto parts out of the back of his truck and started two companies, Houston Truck Parts and Lanham Truck Parts, the latter of which he retired from, leaving to his sons. He had three sons, Dennis, Larry, and John, from his first marriage, five grandchildren, and as of 2014 has eight great grandchildren
