"Samuel M. Raymond died of a heart affection Tuesday afternoon at his home in Youngstown, only five days before reaching his 79th birthday. He was born on East Main street in Canfield March 20, 1859, a son of George and Mary Raymond. When quite a young man he learned the barber trade, advanced rapidly and soon owned his own business, successfully conducting same before disposing of it in 1908 and removing to Youngstown to accept appointment as deputy state oil inspector. Following this work he was connected with Stone-Webster, contractors, later with the city employment bureau, continuing there until a few years ago when he retired. He had been a Mason nearly 48 years, being affiliated with Argus Lodge, No. 545, and served as tyler 17 years, an office he filled at the time of his death; was also a member of Al Sirat Grotto in Cleveland. He was married 54 years ago to Miss Bertha Knapp of Canfield, whom he leaves, with a daughter, Mrs. Harry Warner, and a son, Henry Ross Raymond, both of Youngstown, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Fanny Morrison, of Chicago. Masonic funeral services, largely attended were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Shriver-Allison South Side Youngstown funeral home. The remains were brought to Canfield and laid to rest in the village cemetery beside those of his son Paul, who died some months after enlisting for service in the world war."
