James Sidney Bartlett (known as Sidney) was born on 06 Feb 1902, the son of George Sidney Bartlett and Sarah Jeanette "Sadie" (née Stoddard). Sidney suffered two great losses in his first two years of life with the deaths of his five-month-old younger brother George Herbert Bartlett in 1904, and his father in 1906 who died from a staff infection at the age of 34.
As a young man Sidney had worked alongside his mother in a shoe factory in Millersburg, Dauphin County, PA. As late as 1940 he was living with his half-brother Richard Allison's adoptive family (the Witmers) as a laborer on the farm. Near the end of his life Sidney became confined to a wheelchair, and moved to Marlow, Oklahoma where his mother, Sadie, and his stepfather, Rev. Nathan W. Jackson, cared for him until his death. Sidney died on 01 July 1945 at age 43. His mother Sadie died the following month. Sidney is buried alongside his mother in the Jackson family plot.
