Quaker
Joseph and Martha were married at the home of Martha's brother-in-law, Benjamin Field and sister Hannah Bowne in Whitestone Point, Flushing, Long Island, New York.

Joseph was a Quaker. He lived a quiet and industrious life. He was fully involved with his farming, faith, and his family. Not much appears about him in official records and it is speculated he lived out his entire life much as the rest of the Thorne family just quietly taking care of business, enjoying his family and attending the meetings of the Religious Society of Friends.
