Jack was first-born of Irene and Guy B Rencher and grew up in Eagar and Springerville, AZ. He had worked running a trap line, delivering for Western Union, served as a bodyguard for a professional gambler, and worked as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator at a copper mine. When WWII started, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, wanting to fly fighters. After training to become a pilot, he became an instructor of P-38 fighters. He was trained to fly B-17 bombers and spent a year flying gunnery training at Yuma, AZ. In 1944 he was transferred to the 303rd Bomb Group in Molesworth, England. He flew 35 combat missions over Germany, with his last mission being on December 24, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge. In 1945 he met Louise Schlotterbeck, a Dietitian in the U.S. Army Medical Corps Hospital in San Antonio, TX. They were married in October 1947 and had 3 sons. After WWII, he moved his family to Boise, Idaho and became a salesman selling Kirby Vacuums, finding his gift for sales. He started a mechanic and repair shop in Meridian, Idaho and later started a real estate company. He founded a chemical and detergent company in 1968. In Jack's later years, he was very active in the 303rd Hells Angels bomb group organization. He shared the self appointed title of "The Best Damn 4-Engine Pilot in the Army Air Corps" with friend Harry Gobrecht.
