One of the long time men who have graced the streets and stores of Branson, has passed that bourne from whence none return. Henry DeVall was found dead in his home, by John Hall and Charley Baker, about 3:30 P.M. Sunday, January 4. So regular has been his appearance at the Canote Store in the morning hours, that his failure to come attracted attention, and since he has been failing in health for some time, his home was visited. Getting no response, as entry was forced, and he was found dead. Evidently he had been dead for some hours.
Services were held Thursday, January 8, in Whelchel Chapel at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Frank Goss officiating. Burial is to be in the National Cemetery. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War, and the later insurrection in the Philippines. He had three honorable discharges from military service.
The deceased was born at Burlingame, Kansas, July 24, 1879. He came with his parents to Taney County when a young lad, and except for his army service his life was spent in Branson and vicinity.
He has a brother, Ernie, living in California. Ernie was active in business in Branson in the early 1920's. A sister, Mrs. Edna Blansit, lives in Great Bend, Kansas. She is here for the funeral service. Ernie was not able to attend. There were other members of the family, but we have been unable to learn whether they survive at the time of going to press.
Henry had a warn friendliness that will be missed in Branson.
