John E Walden passed away Sunday at his home in Milton, at the age of 84. Mr. Walden was engaged for many years in farming on Weston mountain, and was highly respected in this community. He retired about 10 years ago and afterward made his home in Milton.
The parents of Mr. Walden were among Oregon's earliest pioneers, having settled on a donation land claim near Salem in 1845. He came with them to this section in 1871 and was married to Lena M. Staggs in 1879. They were the parents of two sons- George, who died in infancy, and Ernest E. Walden of Freewater. Lena Walden was called by death in 1882, and Mr. Walden was married to Rozina Bell in 1896 in Lewiston. Their seven children are all living- Orval B., Theodore R., Lafayette F., Francis L. and Virgil R., all of whom live in or near Milton-Freewater; Lowell J. of the United State Army, now stationed at Fort Missoula, and Bertha C. Beamer of Weston. He is also survived by one sister, Mary C. Bassett of Blackhawk, Montana.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Milton, with the Rev. Fred Green officiating. The remains were brought to Weston for interment.
