Madison M. Bailey was born 1851 in Laurens Co., South Carolina, the son of John and Sarah Bailey. About 1857, this family removed to Suwannee Co., FL and settled on a fine plantation near Pine Grove, where Madison Bailey grew to manhood.
In 1883, Madison Bailey married Sophronia McNeill, the dau. of widowed Frances Palmer McNeill, also of Pine Grove. Mrs. McNeill was the widow of Samuel Butler McNeill, who was killed in action defending his country at Cold Harbor, VA in 1863.
Madison and Sophronia Bailey raised a large family that included the following children:
Henry M. Bailey, born May 1885, mar. Ruby Fletcher.
Ada Bailey, born 1890, mar. Maxie A. Harrell.
Walter Bailey, born 1886, mar, 1. Essie, 2. Zedna Harrell.
Cossie Bailey, born 1894, Live Oak Police Dept 1926-63.
Nellie Bailey, born 1896, mar. Ellis Stephens.
There was an infant, name unknown, that died between 1886-1889.
In 1910, the Madison Bailey family was living next door to Allen Woods, another Suwannee County pioneer, who had married two of Sophronia McNeill Bailey's sisters, first to Louisa McNeill, who died in 1885 and second, in 1885, to Ellen McNeill.
The Bailey boys grew up tending their father's large cotton and tobacco farm, as well as, working in turpentine, sawmills, phosphate mines and railroads in the region.

"Madison Bailey, of Pine Grove, one of the best farmers in the county, was here trading today. He reports the cotton fine in his section."
The three boys, Henry, Walter and Cossie, all registered for the draft of World War One in Live Oak in 1917. That same year, their mother, Sophronia, died and was laid to rest at Pine Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, where the family had attended for many years. Madison Bailey lived another eleven years and joined her in rest on 24 Jan 1928. They are buried side by side.

"The City Council Tuesday voted to hire DeWitt Staats of Live Oak on the police force for a three month probationary period. Staats will replace the retiring veteran policeman, Cossie Bailey, of Live Oak, who has served on the city force since 1926."

Funeral services for Mr. Henry B. Bailey were held Wednesday, Dec. 26, in the Pine Grove Church with the Rev. Tom Allen and the Rev. Howard Finkell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Bailey, 79 year old resident of Suwannee County, died in a local hospital, Monday, Dec. 24, following a brief illness. The lifelong resident of this county owned and operated a farm in the Pine Grove community for the past 50 years. Mr. Bailey is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruby Bailey; one daughter, Mrs. O.H. Abernathy of Ft. Lauderdale; one sister, Mrs. Ada Harrell of Live Oak; and one brother, Mr. Cossie Bailey, of Live Oak. He had four grand children.
