James Brigham Baker was one of four known children born to William Wright Baker & Alice Stevenson.

He followed the steps of his father and was a coal miner while living in England.

On 21 July 1873 he married Sarah Ann Parkes in the Parish of Darton, by banns, listing his father as William Baker, a miner and her father as William Parkes, also a miner. Sarah & James were living in Barugh, Yorkshire at the time of their marriage.

He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1876 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.

He left Liverpool, England, with his family, on the SS Nevada and arrived in the Port of New York, 24 April 1882.

On a hand-written document, his wife, describes him as being 5'4", with blue eyes and brown hair, with 'not very good' health. That he was especially interested in The Gospel and his family.

According to his wife, Sarah Ann, he died of 'stomach trouble'. The Provo Enquirer dated 8 October 1892, has his death notice on their front page, stating he died the night before. So far, there is no Death Certificate but there are family stories to back up that he died in October!
