Born Joshua F Damron in Wayne, WV. to Samuel D Damron and Sarah Sally Smith, the Rev Josh Damron was affectionately called "Uncle Josh" by thousands of people in eastern KY and WV. He was a United Baptist Church minister for 52 years; founding churches of that denomination in Catlettsburg and Honeywell KY as well as Clothier WV. As a circuit riding minister he brought the Gospel to remote and rural regions of eastern KY and WV. He resided in Boyd county for 68 years continuing his ministry until a few months before his death when ill health prevented him. His last years (abt 5) were spent with his daughter; Mrs. Austin Haywood, at the Haywood Hotel in Catlettsburg KY.

Rev Josh married Margaret "Maggie" Frances Stevens in Boyd county on Dec 24 1874. Born of their union were seven sons; Henry Thomas, Samuel G, Silas W., Floyd, James Joshua "Jim", Lon, and Attie G. And three daughters; Sarah J (Miller), Laura Belle (Osborne), Mary Ann (Haywood).

Rev Josh is laid to rest in the Steven Marcum Cemetery with his wife, who proceeded him in death (1932).
