On June 19, 1862 Wiley J. Jones enlisted in the Army of the Confederacy. He served in Company G, Mitchell's Company, 33rd Arkansas Regiment, also known as Grinstead's Regiment. Several of his brothers and brothers-in-law met at the home of Caleb Powell, Wiley's father-in-law, and they marched together about 10 miles to Magnolia to enlist. Enlistment records are as follows:
