MARION: Mrs. Mae Belle Demery Byrd, 86, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Marion County Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mrs. Byrd was born in Marion, a daughter of the late Ben H. Demery and Leila Dimery Demery. She was also predeceased by her husband, Rowland Byrd; brothers, Ben Norton Demery and Sparkie Demery; a grandchild, Janet Little; and brothers-in-law, Zack Grice and Al Thompson. She was the owner/operator of the 501 Restaurant, and was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Byrd are her son, Rowland Byrd Jr., and his wife, Garnette, of Conway; daughters, Jean Byrd Tyler and Annette Byrd of Marion, and Dianne Whitley and her husband, Randy, of Myrtle Beach; sisters, Lula Mae Grice, and Louise Lane and her husband, Jimmy, all of Marion, Mildred Demery of Columbia, and Bette Thompson of Greensboro, N.C.; sister-in-law, Nancy Demery of Marion; grandchildren, Pam Scott and her husband, Robert, Barry Byrd and his wife, Christy, Scott Smith and his wife, Stacy, Brandy Whitley, Courtney Gasque and her husband, Don, Brad Whitley, and Teddy Lamont and his wife, Jimmie Ann; and great grandchildren, Ashley Scott, Makayla Little, Ben Smith, and Harley Byrd.

Funeral Services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 in Reedy Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery, directed by Richardson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the funeral home.
