Mrs. Irvin's Funeral Monday Morning
Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine B. Irvin will be solemnized at 9 o'clock Monday morning in St. John's R. C. church. Rev. Fr. M. F. Bonfield, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Catherine Bower Irvin was born in Chester, April 12, 1866, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Bower. Her father, "Andy" Bower, served for many years as a member of the corps of tipstaves in the Fayette county court house. Mrs. Irvin served in a similar capacity during the last 13 years of her life. She was the first woman in Pennsylvania to be administered the oath of a tipstaff, other women serving in a like position before her bearing the title of matrons. Mrs. Irvin is survived by one son, F. Russell Irvin, of the St. James apartments, East Fayette street, with whom she made her home; three grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Bower, of Hopwood, and William H. Bower, of Keokuk, Ia., and one sister, Mrs. Margaret B. White, of New York City.
