Nash Phillips fought along side of John Basilone at Lunga Ridge on Guadalcanal on October 25, 1942 - John Basilone would win the Medal of Honor for actions that night. Nash Phillips and John Basilone were the only surviors of that engagement. Nash Phillips lost a hand during the battle.
