Musician. Born in El Monte, California, he was a singer-piano player best known by his stage name Scatman John. For years he played many gigs in jazz clubs around Los Angeles, where he created a fusion style called scat singing dance music. In 1994, he had a hit single with the song "Scatman" which sold millions of recordings worldwide and he was named "Best New Artist" in the Echo Awards in both Japan and Germany. In 1999, he released his third and final album "Scatman John", shortly before he died of cancer at age 57.
