JOHN A. NEILL

John A. Neill, the son of William and Sarah Neill, was born at Bloomington, Monroe county, Indiana, June 29, 1882, and died at the home of his son, County Judge David W. Neill, in this city, Tuesday, March 16, 1920, at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 16 days.

He grew to manhood on a farm near White Hall, Indiana, and was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Butler February 2, 1854. To this union were born fourteen children, six of whom have preceded him in death. His wife died March 23, 1907. There are eight children living, Mrs. J. L. Butler, David W. Neill, George J. Neill, Guy R. Neill, Pawnee City; Mrs. C. E. Cameron, Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs. A. J. Barrett, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs. J. J. Gould, Beatrice, Nebr.; John E. Neill, Woodbine, Iowa; also one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Livingston, of White Hall, Indiana.

Mr. Neill enlisted as a volunteer in the civil war in 1863, and served in the 10th Indiana cavalry, company I, to the end of the war. He moved with his family from Indiana to Nebraska in 1871 and located on a farm four miles west of Pawnee City, where he lived with his family many years.

Mr. Neill united with the First Baptist church at Pawnee City November 4, 1912, and was a member in good standing at the time of his death. He also was a member of the G. A. R. post at Pawnee City. He was a kind and indulgent father, a man whom everyone held in high esteem, and took an active interest in the upbuilding of the community.

He leaves to mourn their loss, besides his children and one sister, thirty-three grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in this city Friday morning, March 19, Rev. F. K. Allen officiating, and interment was made in the Pawnee City cemetery.
