Eugenia McConaha, the first white girl born in the city of Seattle, died Monday morning from a complication of diseases, after an illness of several days. Eugenia McConaha was born September 18, 1852, while Seattle was yet only a frontier settlement, in a residence that stood about where the present New England hotel rears its massive walls. She attended the university of Washington the first two years it was opened, afterwards teaching school at Port Townsend. (Morning Olympian, 23 Mar 1899)
