Joseph "Joe" Clarence Abbott was born on October 14, 1908, in Sevier County, Tennessee.

His father, Samuel "Sam" Thomas Abbott (3/14/1869-11/7/1917), was 39 and his mother, Cynthia Louiza Hicks (1869-1916), was 39.

He married Totie Dimple McClain (1908-1969) in 1924 in Knoxville, Tennessee at the age of 16.

When registering for the military on October 16, 1940, at age 32, he was noted to be of the Caucasian race, 5'11", 171lbs, gray eyes, brown hair, and with a light complexion.

He enlisted in the U.S. Military in the Army at age 35. Enlistment Date: 11 Apr 1944. Discharge Date: 12 May 1946. He was a TEC5 in the U.S. Army and served in World War II.

On January 27, 1969, his wife Totie Dimple McClain dies.

He then married Ada Leona Berlitz (1927-2012) in 1971 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

He died on July 10, 1986, in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the age of 77, and was buried in Piney Grove Church Cemetery in Knox County, Tennessee.

Survivors: Mrs. Ada Beiltz Abbott, sons Calvin M and Vernon F McClain, daughter Theresa M Faulkner, all of Knoxville. Five grandchildren, sister Lula McDaniel of Cary, NC. Funeral service 2pm Saturday Weaver Chapel. Rev Ed Parton officiating. Interment Piney Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers: Ellis and Lester Walker, Kenneth Belitz, Ed Turner, WD McConkey, Condy Sharp. Weaver Funeral home in charge.
