"Arthur Morrison Spencer was born near Bainbridge, Ross county, Ohio, November 21, 1835. His parents were natives of Virginia. When a boy, his family moved west in a covered wagon and settled between St Joseph and the 102 river. Later they homesteaded land in Doniphan county, Kansas, from where he moved with his wife and children in 1888 to Buchanan county, Mo. He died at this home on January 13, 1909, from the results of paralysis and heart failure. He is survived by his wife and six children, Mrs. R. A. Spears of Horton, Mrs. Fred Geer of Hoisington, and Charles, Allie, Mary and Frank Spencer, all of St Joseph." The Kansas Chief (Troy, Kansas), January 21, 1909
