Mrs. Bertha Arthur Gardner, 73, widow of Emmett Marshall Gardner, died at her home, 313 Wadsworth Ave. at 5:45 a.m. yesterday after a long illness. She was born in Bedford County, Nov. 7, 1880, the daughter of Samuel B. and Susie Millner Arthur.
She was a member of Nicopolis Methodist Church in Bedford County and is survived by the following children: James F. Gardner, Newport News; Guy C. Gardner, Hamilton, Ohio; Miss Cleo Gardner and Mrs. Rita Patterson, Lynchburg; Mrs. Frank Laughlin, Bedford; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Other survivors include two brothers, J. M. Arthur, Lynchburg; W. E. Arthur, Lima, Ohio; one half-brother, Duval Arthur, Baptist, La., and two half-sisters, Mrs. Nellie Marshall, Lynchburg and Mrs. Stella Kidd of Richmond.
Funeral services will be conducted from Whitten Funeral Home tomorrow at 2 .m. with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery.
