COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Robert E. (Bob) Turney, 94, of Cookeville will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22, at Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, with military honors.

Cookeville Masonic Lodge 266 F&AM will hold a Masonic Memorial Service at 8 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home; and from 2 p.m. until time of services on Sunday, at the church.

Mr. Turney died on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, in Bethesda Health Care Center.

He was born on Dec. 12, 1909, in Nashville to the late Marvin and Claudie Talley Turney.

He was a retired salesman for Swift & Co., with 25 years of service. He was owner/operator of Cafe & Coin Laundry for 20 years.

Mr. Turney served in the Air Force during World War II.

He was a Program Coordinator for Cookeville's Model City Program for five years, served as Chairman of the Cookeville Regional Planning Commission for nine years, and served on the Scout Executive Committee for more than 20 years.

Mr. Turney was a member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee, and was a member of the Backsliders Sunday School Class. He also served as church treasurer for nine years.

Mr. Turney was a member of Cookeville Masonic Lodge #266 F&AM, and a member of Al Menah Shrine Temple.

He was also a member of Cookeville Evening Lions Club since 1962, and served as treasurer for nine years.

He was chairman of the Lions Club Park Committee, worked tirelessly in the club's service projects, including the broom and light bulb sales, flea markets and parking cars at ball games.

His family includes his wife of 59 years, Mable Snow Turney (whom he married on Oct. 7, 1944); a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert (Bob) W. and Helen Turney of Lenoir City; two grandchildren and spouses, Steven and Gwynne Turney of Lexington, Ky., and Lisa and Lance Strawn of Irvine, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Kala and Eric Turney.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Turney.

Pallbearers will be Harold Garrison, Pat Quillen, Junior Palk, Willard Cummings, Raymond Holbrook, Jim Stump and Drue Huffines.

Honorary pallbearers will be Backsliders Class and Men's Club of First United Methodist Church, members of the Cookeville Lions Club, Cookeville Masonic Lodge, and members of Al Menah Shrine.

Revs. Jon Bell, Bob Case and Rebecca Larson will officiate at the services.
