Elizabeth Shirley was a native of Kentucky, born Feb 20, 1806. She married Carter Tarrant Davidson on May 8, 1828 in Warren County, Kentucky. They had 9 children, who were:
1. Amanda Francis, b. 1829 in Kentucky
2. Mary D., b. 1833 in Illinois
3. Margaret, b. 1835 in Illinois
4. William M., b. 1838 in Illinois
5. Martha A., b. 1840 in Illinois
6. Isaac Newton, b. 1842 in Illinois, a twin
7. James M., b. 1842 in Illinois, a twin
8. Emaline, b. 1844 in Illinois
9. Arabella, b. 1847 in Illinois

The family came to Oregon from Monmouth, Illinois, with the 1852 wagon train. In 1860, they were living in Luckimute, which was in the Lane Precinct but in Polk County. Carter was now 58 years of age and Elizabeth was now 44 years old. Carter farmed the land with the aid of their sons William, now 22, and Isaac, now 17. Emaline, now 15, and Arabella, now 13, were also still in the family home. 1870 found them settled in Buena Vista, also in Polk County, and possibly the same land they had settled previously (but just renamed) with William still in the family home but now with land in his own name to farm which he valued at $2400. Emaline, now 24, was also still at home. Their son Isaac lived on an adjacent farm, probably land that his father had given to him, with a family of his own. He was married to Christina, [b. 1846, Illinois] and they were the parents of two small daughters, Oradle, age 3 yrs., and Nellie, age 9 months. Isaac valued his land at $2400 as well. Just two homes from them lived their cousin, James Orville Davidson, listed as Jason Davidson in error, (1825-1889), his wife Mary, and their children, Annette, 17, Eliza, 16, Orville, 12, and Ellis, 6. [James Orville Davidson's father was Hezekiah Davidson, 1789-1876, my 3xgreat grandfather]. In 1880, Carter and Elizabeth were living together in Brownsville, Linn County. Carter stated he was still a farmer, although he was now 79 years of age and in the twilight years of his life, but farmers never really retire as long as they are living on the land that they farm. Elizabeth was by his side, aged 74. Carter passed from this life on Nov 30th, 1881 and was buried at Fircrest Cemetery in Monmouth, Polk County. His dear wife, Elizabeth, followed him on Feb 9th, 1889 just 11 days before her 83rd birthday. She was buried by his side at Fircrest Cemetery and her spirit joined his in Paradise. May they both Rest in Peace.
