"Mrs. A. N. Allen Dead

The community was shocked last week by the announcement of the death of Mrs. Amasa Allen, which occurred at the home of Mrs. Allen's brother in law in Reno County, where she was visiting. Mr. Allen received word Thursday morning that she was seriously ill and at noon received a telegram announcing her death. The cause of her death was a sudden attack of pneumonia.

The news came as a sudden shock to all, especially to the writer who knew her as a sunny haired school girl, as a bride, as a wife, a mother and a grandmother, and for years as a close neighbor. She was an affectionate wife, a kind sacrificing mother, a good Christian woman who cheerfully took on her share of life's burdens. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all in their great sorrow.

Rhoda Greenlief was born in Tecumpseh, Shawnee County, Kansas January 31, 1858 and died at Langdon, Reno County, Kansas October 13, 1904, aged 46 years 8 months and 13 days. in the fall of 1873 she moved to the vicinity of Sedgwick with her family.

On January 31, 1878 she was married to Amasa Allen. Of this union 12 children were born, 9 of whom are living. Very early in life Mrs. Allen was converted and united with the M. E. church, being transferred to this place by letter when she came in 1873. She remained a faithful member of the same till the time of her death. The death of Mrs. Allen was particularly sad because of the suddenness with which death came, and the fact of her being away from home on a visit at the time. While she complained of not feeling well, and called in a physician, her sickness was not thought to be serious until a few moments before she died, and when that fact was discovered it was too late to render any assistance. The body was brought home Saturday morning by her husband, and the funeral was conducted from the M. E. Church by the pastor. The body was interred in Hillside Cemetery."
