Judge Jack ALLEN of Perryton, presiding judge of the 84th District Court since January, 1939, and a pioneer resident of the Panhandle, suffered a heart attack Monday and died at 9:45 p.m. in Perryton Hospital. He was 64 years old.

Judge ALLEN, a prominent figure in both legal and civic circles, was hospitalized after being stricken with a heart attack a week ago Monday. His condition was improving rapidly when he suffered another attack yesterday.

Judge ALLEN assumed the duties of district court judge after winning a special election in 1938 to fill out the term of Judge E. J. Pickens, who died in office. He ran for his first full term in 1940 and never was defeated.

A successor to Judge ALLEN will be named by Gov. Price Daniel. Formerly, a district judge's death required a special vote. However, according to Article 5, Section 28 of the Texas Constitution, the governor is now authorized to appoint a new judge. The appointee will serve until the next general election.

A native of Hamilton, Texas, Judge ALLEN came to Ochiltree County in 1905 when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Ochiltree high school and the University of Texas.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a Mason, a 30-year member and past commander of the Perryton American Legion post, a past president of the North Plains Knife and Fork Club, an honorary member of Rotary Club, a member of the State Bar of Texas and of area bar associations. Judge ALLEN also served on the executive committee of the State Judicial Association.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church under the direction of Boxwell Bros.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, of the home; two sons, William H. and Jack M., and one daughter, Mrs. G. K. RUPPRECHT, all of Perryton; three brothers, Walter of Borger, and Dewey and Rupert of Perryton; four sisters, Mrs. Ruth BRAY of Fresno, California, Mrs. S. P. TEVIS of Vernon, Mrs. I. W.
