George Butcher Passes Away
Lumber Employee Succumbs To Stroke At Sister's Home Sunday - Was 74
George Butcher, 74 years of age, veteran employee of the Hughes Bros. Lumber Company, died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday at the home of his sister, Mrs Alice Goodman, 1308 North Woodlawn Avenue. He suffered a stroke of paralysis while at his work at the Hughes mill last Friday afternoon and was taken to the home of his sister, where his death occurred.
His wife, Addie B. Butcher, died February 15th of this year.
Mr Butcher was born in this county on October 28, 1866 and had spent almost his entire life here. He was the son of Mr and Mrs James H. Butcher, deceased. He had been employed as cabinet maker at the Hughes Brothers Company Mill for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Surviving relatives are three sisters, Mrs Everett Shook and Mrs Alice Goodman of this city, and Mrs Guy Manley of Franklin; one brother, John W. Butcher of Connersville, and three half-brothers, Homer Butcher of Greenfield, Everett Butcher of Indianapolis and Carl Butcher of Largo, Florida,
Funeral services are to be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Clear Creek Church and burial will be in the Clear Creek Cemetery. The services will be conducted by Rev. Frank R. Messersmith and the music will be in charge of Mrs Leslie Peters.
Pallbearers are Leslie Wray, W.E.Taylor and Homer Jones of the Hughes Brother Company, and Alva Richardson, S.C. Coffey and Elmer E. Wells of the Odd Fellows.
The body will remain at the Weir funeral home until the hour of the services.
