Gary Larry Matthews, 59, Gillette, Wyo., died August 16, 2010. Memorial services were Monday, Aug. 23, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Inurnment in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D., with military honors. He was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo., and had served in the Army. Inurnment will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 23, 2010 at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota with Military Honors provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Gillette Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Matthews, age 59, of Gillette, Wyoming died on Monday, August 16, 2010 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado due to a heart related illness.
Gary Larry Matthews was born on December 25, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Dale and Shirley (Davis) Matthews. He was raised and educated in Kansas City. Gary entered into the military in 1969 serving in the Army. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Kansas City. He married Sheryl Poteet in 1974, the couple later divorced. In 1999, he moved to Gillette, Wyoming where he worked various jobs until his health wouldn't allow him to work anymore. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding and his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by two sons: Nathan and Michael Matthews both of Gillette, Wyoming; three daughters: Wendy, Melody and Holly Matthews; several grandchildren, parents, brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his father and other siblings. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Holy Trinity Episcopal
