Myra Peyton Lynch Rogers of Asheville died Sunday, August 22, 2010, at her home after a period of declining health. She was 101. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 12, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Dr. James M. Lynch and Anne Imboden Duff Lynch of Fairview and the wife of the late W. Stewart Rogers, a prominent Asheville architect. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Donald M. Lynch, two brothers, James M. Lynch Jr. and George D. Lynch, and two sisters, Elizabeth Williams Ralls and Anne Lynch Parker.

She was educated at St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines Academy, St. Mary's Episcopal College in Raleigh, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She had been active in community affairs over a number of years through United Way, The Junior League of Asheville, the Children's Welfare League, and the Asheville Art Museum, and she was a founding member of what was formerly the Art Museum Auxiliary. She was very involved in the Junior League's Children's Theatre productions, which were performed for schoolchildren throughout the area, and played the leading role in many of these productions. In 1934 she was named queen of the historic Asheville Rhododendron Festival and was made honorary commander of the Rhododendron Royal Brigade of Guards for her service to the city and to the Brigade, organized a year earlier. She was a gifted artist and possessed an indomitable spirit and an amazing memory; her accounts of things she had experienced throughout her life were treasured by family and friends. She was devoted to her family, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her special joy.
