John Woodruff Cook, 69, died September 29
at Blackfoot. The son of George and
Alice Sparks Cook, he was born April 9, 1893
at Dingle. Mr. Cook resided at
Dingle until moving to Montpelier in 1934
Mr. Cook was employed 18 years by Quayle Brothers, and also worked for the U. S.
Forest Service. More recently he was employed in the maintenance of way
department, Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the LDS Church.
He was married to Catherine Pederson, and she died October 31, 1944.
Surviving are three sons and four daughters, George W. Cook of Montpelier,
Leslie R. Cook of Riverton, New Jersey, Donald Blair Cook of Montpelier, Mrs.
Marie Danks and Mrs. Orval (Marian) Overton both of Pocatello, Mrs. Sam
(Patricia Ellen) Beard of Boise, and Mrs. William (Alice Catherine) Ogan of
Sacramento, California.
Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; one brother, Nello
Cook of Ogden; and seven sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Beatrice) Jensen and Ruth Cook
both of Cokeville, Mrs. Edward (May) LaRocco of Dingle, Mrs. Nicholas Laughter
of Ogden, Mrs. Minnie Pedersen of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Elva Sharp of Los Angeles
and Mrs. George (Nettie) Palmer of Nyssa, Oregon.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, in the Montpelier LDS Third-Fifth Ward
Chapel with Bishop Boyd H. Smart of the Second Ward conducting. The opening
song, “Abide With Me, ‘Tis Eventide”, was by Mrs. Walter A. Hunzeker and Winslow
Swensen, accompanied by Mrs. Lester G. Armatage; invocation, George Hess;
obituary and remarks, Bishop Smart; vocal duet, “Oh My Father”, Mrs. Hunzeker
and Mr. Swensen; speaker, J. Clarence Lindsay; song, “In The Garden”, trio
comprised of Phillip Hulme, Eugene J. Grimes and Max Haddock; speaker, Bishop
Alvin C. Tueller; song, “Abide With Me”, trio; benediction, Ernest w. Vaterlaus.
The prayer at the mortuary was offered by Joseph Jensen; Mrs. Armatage played
the prelude and postlude.
Interment was in the Montpelier cemetery and the grave was dedicated by C. N.
Sparks. Pallbearers were Vernal Doman, Sylvester Bills, Carl Robinson, Lyle
Hayes, Brandon Wilcox and Clifford King. Matthews Mortuary was in charge of
arrangements.
