Born on August 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Loretta (Weltlauf) Welte. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Chester Powell, step-son, Arnold Powell, brothers: Louis Welte and James Welte, and sisters: Theresa Danehe and Frances Schwander.
Surviving family include a step-son: Rev. S. Pete Powell (wife Edith) of Muncie, Indiana, a step-daughter: Janet Lawhorn of Anna, Ohio, a brother Tom Welte of Cincinnati, Ohio, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loving church family who will truly miss her.
Ms. Powell had worked as a factory technician in Cincinnati before moving to McCreary County in 1972. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and served as a volunteer for the McCreary Christian Center for some 30 years. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, watching westerns and going shopping. She had a cat named Kitsy that was very special to her. Most importantly she loved her church and her church family.
Funeral services: 12:30 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Whitley City
Visitation: 11:00 a.m. until time for services at the church
Interment: Barron Fork Cemetery, Whitley City, KY
