He and his brother, William moved to Iowa sometime after 1860.

David C. Walker, age 28, residence Columbus City, nativity, Tennessee enlisted on 15 January 1864 as a Private in Company F, 25th Iowa Infantry. He was mustered in on 08 February 1864. David transferred to Company I, 4th Infantry on 30 May 1865 and was mustered out on 24 July 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky after serving 1 year, 6 months and 9 days. He served with his brother, William A. Walker.

David had moved back to Blount County, Tennessee by 1870.
